My Name is Lion is about a Navajo teenager that is forced to go to a boarding school by the local authorities. Albert (as hes first referred to as) doesnt want to be there, he wants to go home to be with his grandfather and who can blame him? Hes been put into a class filled with kids younger than him because of his poor reading skills, his teacher is constantly trying to get him to participate, and the other kids pick on him because he doesnt fight back.
But what will a field trip to the zoo reveal about himself? At first I thought Albert was just being a whiny teenager, but then I realized that he had every right to be grumpy. Most of my classmates were younger than I was but only because I had a summer birthday. Im not sure how to classify this one, Realism or Historical Fiction. Several details like a government demanded boarding school for minorities like Albert is unheard of in this day and age.
